Peter Thorne

Thorne Engineering began as a general engineering business in a rural community just outside Canberra.  Types of work carried out include, repairs, modification of farming equipment, design and construction of special purpose machines and lately construction on a range of engineering projects for The Australian Parliament House, Canberra.  This work has led to the manufacture of fittings and equipment for the building.

The Weedwakka was born when we bought a brushcutter for our own use and found that the cutting attachments supplied with it weren't very efficient. Having a lot of grass and weeds to control gave us the impetus to experiment. We soon found that most brushcutter users shared our frustration.  The current models of the Weedwakka are the result of a lot of testing and many design changes.  A vital contributing factor has been the feed back from our customers at agricultural field days, where we have taken our products from the beginning as a means of introducing them to the marketplace.

Our goal at all times is to make a tool that does what we claim it will do, efficiently, safely and economically. We recognise that people just want to get the job done, having to waste time fiddling with the cutting end of a brushcutter is not acceptable.

To achieve this, we use the best materials and processes available, we are always looking for better ways of doing things.

We have taken the Weedwakka from the initial concept, though development, testing, patenting, standards certification to manufacture and marketing. Along the way, we have collected a Gold medal at the Geneva Inventions Exhibition, and many commendations from satisfied users,

Thank you.

What Users Have To Say:

Jim Kellett  - Contractor - I'd be lost in my business without the Weedwakka...

Lloyd Griffin - Farmer - Certainly the best unit ever fitted to a brushcutter. Excellent design, well made and does a superb job.

Sven  Hossack-Smith - Horticulturist - An excellent product. It gives many days of maintenance-free use. It also allows you to turn unwanted weeds into ready-cut mulch. Terrific!

Jan Dolheguy - Victorian Irrigation Farmer - Brilliant! Invaluable for easy and quick clearing of long grass and rushes, particularly in irrigation channels. One of the biggest advantages is time saved...no fitting or measuring of cord. From start to finish I do not have to touch or adjust the Weedwakka. I just keep cutting. I find maintenance of Weedwakka is nil.

Canberra City Parks - Appropriate for our work - has a definite advantage over other methods.

Michael Plane - Organic Farmer - Great tool - clever concept. I won't use anything else. No kickback or impact shock. Compared with nylon  cord, superb.

Harold McCormack - Fruit Grower -Excellent for the majority of my work, slashing grass, clover, weeds in between fruit trees. Easy to see where limit of cut is so that you damage less fruit plants. Cuts small stems better than any other product I have used.

Ralph Meyenn - Farmer - Far superior to nylon cord. Indispensable.

E. Donald - QLD Farmer - ...they truly do the work. We love them. When on acreage,  they are invaluable.

Ray Tolley - Private User - Long grass needs to be cut from the top down. Mulching ability of new Weedwakka is a big plus!
